Original plate resembles what is known as "satin finish". *this is NOT. When a piece has been replated, you may see the signature "filled in". Some originals have original plating, many of which never had silver plating, and some which the original plating has mostly worn away. Study worn down and beat up examples! It's amazing what legnth forgers will go. They will "apply patina", not only to scar the signature, but also to give the impression it must be an amazing playing piece. The most important test is it has to feel great and perform!
